Yes I am a little late to join this fandom (3 years late..how about that..) because I am not a fan of sport anime. I did watched few episodes Prince of Tennis & Eyeshield 21 but stopped halfway because I lost interest. So when my Tumblr being bombarded with Free! gif, I had my doubt to watch this anime. Plus the episodes with each season were quite short (12/13 episodes for season 1 & 2). Usually anime with short episodes leave a lot of questions and cliffhangers. So I just pushed this anime aside until last week, when I decided you know what.. let's watch Free! and see what the fuss all about. AND LET ME TELL YOU THAT WAS THE BEST DECISION I HAD EVER MADE!!.
And I just realized why the episodes for each season are quite short BECAUSE YOU CAN'T SURVIVE A SWIMMING ANIME. BOYS SWIMMING ANIME IF THEY'RE LONGER THEN WHAT THEY HAVE NOW.
Out of all characters in this anime, my favourite is Tachibana Makoto and this entry is especially written to fangirl over him,,
WHY I LOVE TACHIBANA MAKOTO AND LET ME COUNT THE WAY:
I LOVE MAKOTO:
1. When he smiles.
2. When he goes to Haru's house every morning so they can go to school together.
3. When he gives his hand to Haru and pulls him out of the pool or bathtub.
4. When he calls Haru "Haru-chan".
5. When he being all considerate and kind towards his family & friends.
6. When he is terribly scared of ghost & the dark, yet still follows his friends to go to the abandoned school & guest house.
7. When he is scared, he clings and hides behind Haru.
8. When he didn't hesitate to jump in the ocean to save Rin from drowning, even though he scared of the ocean.
9. When his fear of the ocean didn't stop him from swimming.
10. When he said the reason he is not afraid of swimming is because he's doing backstroke and can see the sky.
11. When he puts flowers and offers prayers at his goldfish's grave.
12. When he wears his glasses (even though this is like a few seconds in the end of Season 2).
13. When he teaches kids swimming and decided to study in Tokyo University & be a swimming coach.
14. When he swims backstroke in relay.
15. When he swipes his hair after each swimming session.
16. When he takes off his shirt.
17. When he says swimming is fun because of Haru and all of his friends.
