When it comes to books (novel especially), it
is quite difficult for me to exactly mention which one is my favourite. I am
always fond of detective/investigation stories as my favourite reading
materials when I was a child were The Hardy Boys and The Famous Five.
And growing up, in my teenage years I was
introduced to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. While in matriculation
centre I came across Margery Allingham’s Albert Campion and Agatha Christie’sHercule Poirot. In fact the works of these three authors really are among the
top list of my favourite books. But as I was exposed to different genres of
reading materials (either for literature classes or not), I started reading
other than detective novels.
I love horror stories. Dracula is the first
novel that I read to cater to this genre. Being someone who is easily scared I’m
not brave enough to watch horror/scary movies but books..I love every
second/page of it. Stephen King is my all-time favourite writer. Reading Nightmares and Dreamscapes alone, at night was my idea of fun when I was in matriculation
centre.
I remember when I was a student, almost every
Friday I went to the library to borrow novels to be read during the weekend.
This was how I came across Clive Cussler’s Dirk Pitt and my mind was blown. His
works are amazing. It almost like reading about Indiana Jones’s adventures
except Mr. Pitt’s adventures are looking for the lost treasures in the ocean.
A good book is a book that I can’t put down
once I start reading. A good book is the one that take me away from my
surrounding and immerse myself in the plot, characters and conflicts. Being a
highly imaginative individual, a good book is as good as experiencing the
adventure and the mystery, being a part of the story and interacting with the
characters. I guess all avid readers will experience this and understand what I’m
talking about. So, have you read any good book lately?
