Linkin Park : A Thousand Suns

The best thing about Linkin Park is they will never produce the same product twice. Maybe some of you disagree by pointing out that Hybrid Theory and Meteora are kind of similar.

I’m not an expert when it comes to music, producing and song writing but I know and brave enough to say that they are different. The issues being highlight in Meteora are wider and many of them are opened to interpretation.

Hybrid Theory is more personal because it deals with frustration, despair, anger, helplessness or being discriminated because of being different. Meteora echoes the same sentiments but this time they make the emphasis broader. Somewhere I Belong is about self discovery, Nobody’s Listening speaks about their hard work and dissatisfaction as artists and musicians while Breaking the Habit to certain critics (or listeners) might imply self mutilation in order to deal with “the dark aspect of one’s life” and to be heard.

The key word is both albums are different. Minutes to Midnight deals with broad aspect of humanity; war, pollution, terrorism, hoping for better future and asking for forgiveness. There are voices condemning this album. Linkin Park is being “soft” in their music. The aspect of “nu-metal” is gone. They lost their “fang”. I’m also not a big fan of this particular album because it’s kind of difficult to accept the “tame” version of music after Hybrid Theory and Meteora. Yet I enjoy some of the songs like Bleed It Out, Leave Out the Rest and No More Sorrow.

Linkin Park is growing up as individuals and musicians. A Thousand Suns is the best manifestation of this statement. They defy mainstream music, experiment with different kind of genres and no limitation in creative aspect of the album. The first single The Catalyst blows me away. Good songs and music always give me goosebumps and The Catalyst gives me goosebumps every time. The opening of the song (rap by Mike Shinoda) is so sturdy, emotional and rapid it makes some tiny cold fingers run across my spine. The bridge ( lift me up…let me go) is also haunting. Who cares if this album is not served like Hybrid Theory and Meteora when in reality Linkin Park can produce an album that outdo themselves.
